    Dear all,

Margaret May proposed a unified encoding for HIV subtypes and CRFs. This concerns the field SUBTYPE of table tblLAB_RES. I forward the document on her behalf:

ART-CC has an approved concept sheet to look at prognosis by subtypes. We have looked at the subtype data in the current COHERE database and have found that there is no standardisation of terminology for subtypes and CRFs. We would like to propose that the next version of HICDEP is modified to include a lookup table for subtypes and CRFs (maybe this is already proposed?). Please see attached discussion document which details how we are considering recoding the subtypes we currently have in ART-CC to a uniform system. Would this be acceptable for the next update of HICDEP or do you have an alternative proposal?

Please have a look at the documents and share your comments!

    Kind regards,

    Simon

Please find below a brief comment from Linda Wittkop on the document Margaret May has provided HICDEP:

"Normally, there should be a variable indicating which virus we are talking about (LAB_VIRO table, variable VS_ID). To be more precise one could imagine adding a variable group_id (for M, O, N or P) to make sure that we are all talking about subtypes from HIV-1 group M"

    Kind regards,

    Monique
