How to Print an excerpt of the HICDEP specification


SOPs for data mergers usually include the relevant portions of the HICDEP specification to help the cohort's data managers with the preparatation of the data.


Anyone with an interest in a print-out version can produce one. No account is needed.


These are the steps required to produce a PDF document containing a certain set of tables and coding lists. If you wish to make changes to the document produced by the "Book printer", refer to this section.

  1. Click the tab named "Admin" in the navigation bar on the top left.
  2. You should now see the following screen:

  1. Fill in the document meta-information. From this, a simple cover sheet will be produced.
  2. Select the wiki pages you wish to include in the document by clicking on them and then moving them down by pressing the button labeled "v"
  3. Note: Make sure you selected the articles from the correct HICDEP version. This is a common mistake.
  4. Note: Make sure you include the articles containing the coding lists for fields of the referenced table, especially the xxx_ID fields.
  5. If needed, you can rearrange the pages in the "Selected Pages" lis
  6. In the "Output Format" section, select PDF Book as output format.

  1. Click the create button.
  2. Wait a minute or two. Depending on the size of your document, this process can take while. You might want to get a coffee or a refreshing beverage now.
  3. If all works well, your browser will let you download the PDF document.

Convert PDF to DOC

In many cases, you will want to make small changes to the document produced above. Unfortunately, there is no suitable mechanism to convert the web pages to an editable format directly. In the following, we present a practical workaround which works well enough for most cases.

If you wish to edit the HICDEP document and are not in possession of an Adobe Acrobat version which allows you to edit PDF files, you can convert the PDF to a Microsoft Word document. There are several tools which allow you to do so, but in our experience, the DocConvert from produces the best results.

  1. Download and install ConvertDoc
  2. convert the "PDF Book" produced by the WikiPrint as follows:
