http://hicdep.org/wiki/Hi...TableBas/FieldEthnic Revised and added codes for different ethnicities. Also changed limitations and instructions. Please review and comment. Sebastian

Thanks for updating this table, Sebastian. I'm unclear, however, what "prohibited" means, and I wonder we should remove this as they are, for all intents and purposes, unknown.

    Hello Ashley

My understanding is (@Monique, please correct if wrong) that in France it is not allowed to collect information on ethnicity. Thus the code "prohibited".

In any case there is more information in a 'prohibited' code than an 'unknown' code. In the QA checks it makes sense to distinguish.

You may lump these together in the statistical analysis if you wish. But I think it is better for the statistician to make this distinction rather than remove the meta-data that this coding will impart.

The term "Prohibited" was indeed introduced in HICDEP as in France the Conseil constitutionnel stated in 2007 that ethnic and racial origins are not objective criteria and would conflict with Article 1 of the French Constitution. Therefore there is/was a ban on statistics relating to ethnic or racial origins.
